Vaison la Romaine is situated 8 miles from the foot of the 6,263ft high Mont Ventoux and is surrounded by the numerous picturesque villages of the High Vaucluse. It is a real paradise for walkers, cyclists and wine lovers. The town itself is renowned for its imposing Roman ruins, its medieval _old town_ as well as its large and fascinating Provencal market each Tuesday. The town has two large supermarkets, a wide range of smaller shops as well as many excellent restaurants. English newspapers are available from early morning in the town. The area benefits from the lovely Provencal climate. Camping Théâtre Romain caters for couples and families who are looking for a peaceful and spotlessly clean campsite. Established in 1994 the campsite is less than 600 yards from the town centre, a gentle stroll past the ruins of a Roman town and its Roman theatre.
