Great week stop

Review of the campsite

The camp pitch was separated by trees or hedges so fairly private and shady. St Rémy was 5 minute walk. Cycling was great and lots of places to go. Very hot when we were there but swimming pool helped and ofcourse the shady pitch

Review of the campsite

We have been visitors on and off for 20 years and needed to find an easier way to camp, the Mobile Home was perfect, the air-con was a real bonus as the weather was very hot. The campsite is very attractively laid out and the staff are all really helpful, friendly and professional. Pegomas is a 5 minute walk from St Rémy, beautiful town with so many fantastic places to visit, great shops and a terrific market, the macarons are not to be missed!

Would've liked an oven but that is really nit-picking and might lose valuable storage space.

A welcoming and human atmosphere

From the very first days, we were struck by the friendly atmosphere. There are many regulars, but the vibe is very open: people easily talk, chat, and bump into each other at the bar or the pool. You can feel something very human, very simple, almost like being in a small neighborhood.

In addition, what also makes Camping Pegomas unique is,  its location. We felt like we were living in a quiet campsite surrounded by nature, yet we were only a ten-minute walk from the Place de la République and the historic center of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. It was the perfect balance between tranquility and village life.

Unwinding and family life

With our kids aged 6 months and 4 years old, and our dog.

At the end of the day, the snack bar became our meeting point. Often accompanied by a food truck for an aperitif or dinner, it was a perfect place for adults to chat while the children played right next to us in the playground.

We even had moments where we quietly enjoyed an aperitif, holding a bottle of rosé de Provence, while the kids were still enjoying the water games at the pool—a true feeling of a relaxed holiday.

For our children, the most important thing was the size of the campsite: neither too big nor too crowded. The calm, safety, and family atmosphere allowed us to be completely at ease. Our pitch was perfectly shaded, which was ideal for our six-month-old baby’s nap… and the dog’s, too! It was spacious enough for our four-person tent and always stayed cool, even during the hottest hours of the day.

Exploring Saint-Rémy on foot

What we loved was being able to do everything on foot, always accompanied by our dog. Going to the village for morning coffee, strolling through the alleyways, and heading back peacefully without ever needing to take the car.

Every time we returned to the campsite, we passed through the village again: a coffee break in the shade, buying a few groceries from local shopkeepers—a simple and very pleasant rhythm.

When it came to markets, it was impossible to miss the Saint-Rémy-de-Provence market on Wednesday morning. It was even better than the Saturday one—a bit less crowded—and perfect for stocking up on summer fruits, vegetables, and local products.

Local visits and discoveries

From the campsite, we visited Saint-Paul-de-Mausole, the former monastery turned psychiatric hospital where Van Gogh stayed. It was a moving visit, very accessible from the campsite.

Another great discovery was the ancient city of Glanum, right next to Saint-Rémy. The ruins were impressive, even for the children, and it took us about thirty minutes on foot from the campsite to get there.

The only real car trip during our stay was to Les Baux-de-Provence, about thirty minutes away. The perched village offers a spectacular view of the Alpilles. We also visited the Carrières de Lumières and their immersive indoor exhibition. It was an experience that really impressed our children, and it provided a welcome break in the cool shade in the middle of the afternoon heat.

Thoughtful details for everyday refreshment

And of course, almost every day ended with a visit to the swimming pool. A moment of freshness shared all together: simple, natural, and perfect when traveling with young children.

A small detail that we really appreciated was the campsite’s dog shower (cani-douche). Our dog seemed particularly happy to refresh himself after our walks under the Provençal sun.

In summary, our family stay at Camping Pegomas was a succession of simple pleasures: living on foot, enjoying the sweetness of Provence, sharing warm moments, discovering Saint-Rémy and its treasures, and savoring a peaceful, family-oriented, and deeply human atmosphere.
