Our family experience amidst rivers and nature in Lorraine

Camping Les Boucles de la Moselle: perfect for a family holiday by the river

  • A campsite situated on the banks of the Moselle, near the medieval village of Liverdun and numerous walking trails.
  • A family-friendly atmosphere and a warm welcome, with the option to choose your own pitch and fresh bread in the morning.
  • Outdoor swimming pool, brasserie-style restaurant and a nearby leisure centre with games and sports facilities.
  • Ideally situated to visit Nancy, just a 12-minute TER train ride away, and exploring Lorraine.

The highlight of our trip: exploring Nancy as a family

We arrived at Camping Les Boucles de la Moselle in mid-July with our two children, aged 3 and 7. We’d originally planned to stay for just two nights, but as soon as we arrived we realised we’d want to extend our stay to make the most of the region. The atmosphere was peaceful, the natural setting very pleasant, and we immediately felt like we were on holiday.

The campsite let us choose our pitch, and we opted for a sunny spot near the River Moselle. That very evening, we ordered bread and pastries for the next morning. Starting the day with fresh bread and croissants still warm is always a real treat when travelling in France.

Campsite activities and a visit to Liverdun

Right next to the campsite is a bustling leisure park. The children immediately headed for the play area: the zip line, slide and merry-go-round. Meanwhile, we had a quick game of pétanque. We also noticed the football pitches and beach volleyball courts, where other holidaymakers were enjoying the afternoon.

Close to the campsite is also the medieval village of Liverdun, perched on a hill above the Moselle. We climbed up there to admire the views over the valley and explore its charming narrow streets.

Total relaxation at the campsite

The next day, we decided to stay in at the campsite and make the most of the facilities. The children spent a lot of time in the outdoor pool and on the play areas. The campsite also has a very pleasant brasserie-restaurant where you can enjoy local beers and wines. Service starts early in the evening, which is very handy with young children: we were able to have a quiet dinner before settling down for the night.

The campsite is also very nature- and fishing-oriented. In fact, it holds the ‘Fishing Centre and Fishing Accommodation’ label. An introductory fishing course for children is offered in partnership with the local fishing federation. You can buy fishing permits and even complete kits directly on site, which makes the experience very straightforward for families.

Trip to Nancy

At the reception desk, the staff recommended we visit Nancy, which is easily accessible from the campsite. You can get there by TER train in just 12 minutes, or by bike along the Moselle. We opted for the bike ride, taking our time for about an hour.

Once we arrived in Nancy, we started by popping into the tourist office to plan our visit, but the most impressive moment was undoubtedly discovering Place Stanislas, often considered one of the most beautiful squares in the world. With its gilded details and elegant buildings, you really feel as though you’re in a miniature Versailles.

We took the opportunity to sample a few local specialities: quiche lorraine and mirabelle plum tart, which were absolutely delicious.

At the Parc de la Pépinière

In the afternoon, we continued our visit to Parc de la Pépinière, a large, lovely park ideal for families. The children enjoyed the fairground rides, watched the animals and played in the playground. That day, a pianist was even giving a short open-air performance. We rounded off the afternoon with waffles and Italian ice cream.

We were told that a sound and light show took place every evening in Place Stanislas. We liked the idea so much that we decided to extend our stay by one night so we could come back and see it the following evening. The show was magnificent and provided a magical moment for the whole family.

The rest of the holiday: nature, walks and simple family moments

Walks along the Moselle

There are several walking paths around the campsite, allowing you to explore the region’s natural surroundings. The campsite also provides maps and route guides to help you plan your walks.

We chose a shaded path that runs alongside the Moselle and offers a lovely view of Château de la Flie, an elegant country house visible from the valley. The walk was ideal with the children, surrounded by nature, the river and peaceful landscapes.

Facilities designed with families in mind

The campsite offers several facilities that we really appreciated during our stay:

  • An outdoor swimming pool to cool off on hot days.
  • A nearby leisure centre with children’s play areas and sports fields.
  • A friendly restaurant-brasserie for dining on site.
Fresh bread and pastries available in the morning.

Everything is simple, practical and perfectly suited to families travelling with young children.

An ideal location for exploring Lorraine

Thanks to its location on the banks of the Moselle, the campsite is an excellent base from which to explore the region. With historic villages, riverside scenery and cultural cities such as Nancy, it’s easy to alternate between moments of relaxation and new discoveries.

Conclusion: a simple and authentic family holiday in Lorraine

As we were leaving, we popped into the campsite shop one last time to buy a few bottles of wine and extend our trip to France a little longer.

This stay left us with wonderful memories: a welcoming, peaceful and family-friendly campsite, perfectly situated for exploring the Moselle, its landscapes and the cultural treasures of Lorraine.

It’s the sort of place you come to for two nights… and end up deciding to stay a little longer.
