With our children aged 4 and 7

We were looking for a family-friendly campsite in Dordogne that was peaceful, close to nature and suitable for children. We had already stayed here in 2023 and returned, confident that we would enjoy a comfortable and friendly family holiday. This second stay was even better than the first, as we found the same charm and warm welcome at Camping Le Plein Air des Bories in Carsac-Aillac, but with a significant upgrade in terms of services and facilities.

When we arrived, we were delighted to find the campsite in an exceptional location, on the banks of the Dordogne river, in a green and very relaxing environment. The setting is simply ideal for a camping holiday in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, far from the hustle and bustle, yet close to the most beautiful villages of the Périgord Noir.

Direct access to the greenway, just a few minutes' walk away, was a real bonus for us. We were able to go on bike rides with the children in complete safety, without having to take the car. This practical and natural aspect perfectly matched what we expected from a family campsite in the Dordogne.

One of our fondest memories will undoubtedly be our first day by the river. Being able to swim directly from the campsite, lay out a towel in the shade and let the children play freely in the water is a real luxury. The Dordogne is calm at this point, making it ideal for families with young children.

Our eldest son and his father set off down the Dordogne from the campsite (without a minibus, which was really nice) at around 10 a.m. They chose the short 14 km route (there is also a 20 km option for the more athletic). We all met up at midday in Vitrac for a picnic by the river. The older children then continued the trip, while we took the little one back for a nap in the shade by the Dordogne.

In the early afternoon, we took a 10-minute walk to the village's Jardins d'Eau (water gardens in Carsac-Aillac), a very pretty and peaceful spot that children particularly enjoy, especially when it's time to feed the fish.

Later in the day, we visited the Château des Milandes, less than 20 km away (the only trip we made by car), the former home of Josephine Baker, who lived there from 1937 and bought it in 1947. A magnificent château with splendid gardens and an impressive falconry, it was really enjoyed by our children, even the youngest.

Back at Camping Le Plein Air des Bories at the end of the day, we enjoyed the campsite brasserie, which still served high-quality food at prices virtually unchanged since our first stay here.

On the other days, we enjoyed the outdoor activities available from the campsite: walks, cycling on the greenway and relaxing in the heart of nature. This was exactly what we were looking for when we booked a camping holiday in the Périgord Noir.

We chose air-conditioned accommodation, which was very welcome during our stay in June, when temperatures were already summery. It was very comfortable: peaceful nights, enough space for the whole family and a pleasant terrace to enjoy the evenings.

The campsite is perfectly suited to families with young children: green spaces, shaded areas, quiet traffic and clean sanitary facilities. We felt at ease from the very first days, which is essential when travelling with children.

What we particularly liked about Camping Le Plein Air des Bories was the pace of life. In the morning, we took our time, bought fresh bread on site for breakfast on the terrace of our mobile home, and then everyone chose their own activity: swimming, walking, relaxing or exploring the surrounding area. In the evening, we gather for a simple meal, sometimes at the mobile home, sometimes at the campsite restaurant, sometimes by the river.

This friendly and relaxed atmosphere allowed us to enjoy a real family holiday, far from busy schedules and the constraints of everyday life.

Our stay at Camping Le Plein Air des Bories in Carsac-Aillac will remain a wonderful memory. Between its location on the banks of the Dordogne river, the peaceful atmosphere, the proximity to the must-see sites of the Périgord Noir and the facilities designed for families, everything came together for a successful holiday.

It is an ideal campsite for family holidays in the Dordogne, where you can take the time to live, share and enjoy nature to the full. It is a place we will treasure and where we will happily return.
