Excellent little gem, idea for families

Review of the campsite

Excellent site, great facilities, good pitches. Great pools, perfect for kids. Many people used as a stop off. We did but for 3 nights and we could have stayed more.

Could have a normal control on the water taps instead of a push button

Just arrived: A warm welcome and the ultimate waterslide success

Our holiday achieved a wonderful balance for our family between the early summer nature walks in Auvergne that the adults deeply needed, and the campsite facilities that kept our young children entertained all day long whenever we were on-site.

We received an especially warm welcome from the new owners, Sébastien and Virginie, who had just taken over the establishment. Their English was entirely sufficient for simple, kind, and deeply human communication. Right from the start, our kids literally adored the waterslides. Very few campsites in Auvergne actually offer them, and it was a specific condition our children had "demanded" for the holidays!

Pedestrian rhythms: family bike rides and scenic local villages

For the grown-ups, almost every day brought a new walking or hiking excursion. One day, we even decided to head out on bicycles, which we rented directly from the reception desk. We kept them for the four of us over a four-day period, allowing us to make the most of them whenever we pleased.

We went on a short 4-kilometer bike ride with the kids, which was absolutely perfect for their pace. We stopped in the village of Orcet to see the local church, buy some fresh bread, and enjoy a drink—a simple yet deeply pleasant moment together.

Conquering heights: The trek to Notre-Dame de Monton

We also took a beautiful hike up to the Vierge de Monton, which was about 12 kilometers out. It turned out to be quite sporty due to the elevation gain, offering a true immersion into nature. We experienced a wonderful awakening of the natural world, encountering vibrant flowers, wildlife, and diverse flora along the path.
Once we finally reached the top, we were rewarded with a magnificent 360-degree panoramic view stretching across the entire chain of Auvergne volcanoes, and we could even spot our campsite down below.

Cool nights, warm waters, and aerial adventures

Returning to the campsite was always a welcome treat, especially to enjoy the heated swimming pool. Even though the daytime weather was beautiful, the nights remained quite cool.

Seeking a thrill, we decided to try a brand-new experience that turned into a true moment of adventure: a first-time paragliding flight for the entire family. It was accessible for children starting from 5 years old and 25 kg, which allowed all of us to do it together. We took off from the summit of the Puy de Dôme, located about 40 minutes from the campsite, after finding the local contact info directly at the reception desk. Everyone was incredibly enthusiastic, and each of us left with a souvenir video of a truly unique moment.

Day trips: Lakeside walks and historic villages

To mix up the scenery, we spent a day at Lake Chambon, which is about a 35-minute drive away and a truly magnificent spot. You can walk entirely around the lake in about an hour and a half, enjoy a highly refreshing swim in the water before a family picnic, and then head back to the campsite.

On another day, we took a wonderful trip to the village of Montpeyroux, which is officially classified among the most beautiful villages in France. We timed our visit with the local market day, giving us a perfect opportunity to browse all of its excellent regional products.

We also recommend a small restaurant located about a 5-minute drive from the campsite called "Les Briques Rouges". We ate lunch there on the outdoor terrace, taking in a lovely view of the Puy de Dôme. We absolutely recommend trying the traditional truffade, and finishing off the meal with a piece of Saint-Nectaire cheese—a real culinary delight.

Conclusion: Shared experiences that made our holiday meaningful

Ultimately, our stay at Le Clos d'Auroy was defined by everything we shared together through our walks, hikes, and paragliding adventure. It was these experiences, lived side by side, that truly gave our holiday its meaning.
