Our family vacation at the La Plaine Tonique campsite, located near Montrevel-en-Bresse, was a complete success. We had booked a two-bedroom accommodation for us and our 2 kids, aged 8 an 14 year old, and it was a comfortable, well-shaded mobile home. It was situated within a spacious, natural environment at the heart of a large, verdant estate. From the very moment we arrived, the welcome was incredibly warm, and the staff provided us with plenty of useful information to help us make the most of our stay.

We specifically chose this campsite because it ticked all our boxes: it offered the chance to swim in the Montrevel-en-Bresse lake, gave us free included access to the aquatic park—ideal for mixing up our swimming options in the peak of summer—and provided a wide range of activities and entertainment to keep the kids fully amused. 

The children quickly made their way to the mini-club and the teen club, where they spent two afternoons. It was a fantastic opportunity for them, as they met fellow young campers and made friends for the rest of the holidays. 
Our 8-year-old son absolutely loved the hands-on arts and crafts sessions. Meanwhile, my 14-year-old teenager jumped right into treasure hunts and organized sports tournaments, playing volleyball, ping-pong, and basketball. While tennis and mini-golf required an extra fee during the summer, we learned that a free session is offered during the low season. We are already thinking about coming back here for a long holiday weekend in May 2026! 
One afternoon, we all took part in a Koh-Lanta (survivor-style) challenge right on the beach, which was a wonderfully friendly event where lots of holidaymakers played together. The campsite also features a pétanque court. Our youngest enjoyed a brand-new playground right next to it, allowing us to play a game and enjoy a drink nearby while keeping an eye on him. 

With the freedom to move back and forth between the leisure base (base de loisirs) and the water park, we structured our days perfectly: mornings were spent at the aquatic park and afternoons at the lake. The water park itself was massive, boasting five swimming pools, two waterslides, and a water-play platform where our youngest had an absolute blast splashing around. One morning, an instructor offered an aqua-aerobics class. My 14-year-old daughter and I joined in for some quality mother-daughter time, while the boys enjoyed the rest of the water park. 
The leisure base was a true paradise and a major reason behind our booking. It featured two distinct beaches: a supervised one open to the general public, and an unsupervised beach reserved strictly for campers, accessible directly from the campsite. 
While there were plenty of optional water sports available for an extra charge—such as electric surfing, towed tubing, and parasailing—we decided to try the giant inflatable structure, the diving boards, and the big water slide. It was a thrill-seeking activity that delighted the whole family. We also tested our balance and teamwork on a giant paddleboard. It really put our coordination to the test, especially when a few waves rolled in to spice up the challenge. 

On land, we walked all the way around the lake, completing a scenic hike of about 6 km in just over an hour. The reception team was incredibly helpful, pointing out that there are 22 marked terrestrial trails starting directly from the site. The leisure base also rents out mountain bikes. The area is highly popular with cyclists, offering nine marked trails, including the Voie Royale, which stretches for about 20 km. 
The evenings at the campsite were just as delightful as the days. We had dinner at the guinguette (open-air restaurant), enjoying the beach views as night began to fall. Throughout our stay, we also enjoyed the nightly entertainment, which included a live concert and a highly amusing cabaret show. 
One afternoon, we participated in an introductory workshop on upcycled crafts. It was a wonderful activity that raised awareness for the children (and ourselves) about ecology and protecting the environment. These are core values for the campsite, which proudly holds the Pavillon Bleu (Blue Flag) eco-label. 
To top it all off, we were lucky enough to be there on July 14th (Bastille Day), where we watched a magnificent fireworks display launched directly over the lake. 

One day, we stepped outside the campsite to visit the Royal Monastery of Brou and do some shopping in Bourg-en-Bresse. The monastery tour is designed to be highly dynamic for children, making it an exceptionally pleasant family outing. Best of all, we were able to go without taking our car, as a convenient bus route passes right near the campsite. Afterwards, we stopped at a restaurant in town to taste the local cuisine, including the famous traditional Bresse chicken in cream sauce (poulet de Bresse à la crème). 

This stay will remain a beautiful memory for our entire family. Our main goal was to enjoy as many activities on-site as possible, and at La Plaine Tonique, there is certainly no shortage of choices. Between the lake, the massive water park, the children's entertainment, and the warm, friendly atmosphere, everyone found their own rhythm and favorite moments. It is truly an ideal campsite for an active, easy-going family vacation.
