Booking a campsite nowadays is almost as easy as booking a hotel. You can easily make a reservation online, but you can also book directly with the campsite by phone or by email. Below, we explain step by step what the options are and what you should keep in mind to plan your camping holiday with peace of mind.
1. Decide on your travel dates and destination
Before booking, it’s important to determine your preferred travel dates and destination. During peak season, school holidays or around public holidays, many campsites fill up quickly. If your dates are flexible or you plan to travel outside peak season, you will often benefit from a wider choice and better availability.
2. Choose the campsite that suits you
Think about the type of camping holiday you want:
- A pitch, mobile home, or glamping accommodation
- Travelling alone, as a couple, with family, or with your dog
- By the sea, in the mountains, near a city, or close to a village
Also pay attention to facilities and services such as a swimming pool or restaurant, and read reviews so you can choose the campsite that best matches your preferences.
3. Ways to book a campsite
Online via a booking platform
One of the easiest ways is to book through a specialised online booking platform such as Camping Direct. There you can search by destination, holiday period or theme. You can compare different campsites and book directly online without additional booking fees.
Via the campsite’s official website
Many campsites have their own booking system on their website. Here you can find information about prices, availability and payment options.
By telephone
Some holidaymakers prefer personal contact. Most campsites still accept reservations by phone, allowing you to discuss any specific requests directly.
By email
You can also send a booking request by email. Include your preferred travel dates, the number of people and any other relevant information. The campsite will check availability and then get back to you.
4. Payment and deposit
Depending on the campsite, a deposit may be required at the time of booking. This is common practice and serves as a guarantee for the reservation. Accepted payment methods may vary from one campsite to another.
5. Changing or cancelling a reservation
Changes or cancellations are always handled directly by the campsite. The conditions for this are set out in the campsite’s terms and conditions and may vary.
If you booked via Camping Direct, you will find this information in your confirmation email under the heading “Terms and Conditions.” It will also state whether, and under what circumstances, a deposit that has already been paid can be refunded.
If you would like to change, cancel or extend a booking made via Camping Direct, please contact the campsite where you made your reservation directly. The contact details can be found in your confirmation email or on the campsite’s profile page on Camping Direct via the “Contact the campsite” button, located below the map or under the description on the mobile version.
6. After booking
Once your reservation has been confirmed, it is advisable to check the following:
- Check your booking confirmation carefully
- Review the arrival and check-in times
- Arrange any additional services in advance
This will help you start your holiday well prepared.
